Colombian coffee is grown at high altitudes and tended to with care in the shade of banana and rubber trees. The rich volcanic soil, in the mountains of Colombia, produce ideal conditions for growing high quality coffee beans. Because the mountainous terrain precludes the possibility of significant mechanization, Colombian coffee is harvested by hand – at its optimal ripeness. Harvesting coffee by hand in Colombia results in, not only a higher-quality product, but also the broader involvement of family-run coffee growing operations in the industry. Due to Colombia’s location to the Equator, many areas actually experience two harvest seasons, rather than one seen in most coffee-growing countries around the world. The alternation of wet and dry seasons supports two harvests, one running from September to December and the other running from April to June… giving the opportunity for coffee cultivation all year long.

Colombian National Coffee Park
The National Coffee Park (Parque Nacional del Café) is a theme park located in the department of Quindio, Colombia. The park can be reached from a cable car, offers attractions such as a global coffee garden, a roller coaster, and food stalls – all based on coffee. The park was founded in 1995 by the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (La Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia) and the Departmental Committee of Coffee Growers of Quindío (El Comité Departamental de Cafeteros del Quindío). It consists of two main areas: by the main entrance are the buildings housing the museum and exhibitions detailing the history, culture and process of growing and producing coffee; and in the valley beyond is an amusement park with rides and shows.
