Did you know that originally pralineĀ was roughly a sweet confection made of almonds and caramelized coating?

Food Facts of Pralines:

  1. Praline is a type of candy made fromĀ nutsĀ andĀ sugar syrup, whether in whole pieces or a ground powder.
  2. Ā Although the stories surrounding the creation differ, it is widely agreed that pralines are named after French diplomat from the early 17th century whose name and title was CĆ©sar, duc de Choiseul, comte du Plessis-Praslin.
  3. French settlers brought this recipe toĀ Louisiana, where bothĀ sugar caneĀ andĀ pecanĀ trees were plentiful. During the 19th century,Ā New OrleansĀ chefs substituted pecans forĀ almonds, added cream to thicken the confection, and thus created what became known throughout the American South as the praline.
  4. In New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast, where there are many communities settled by the French, the pronunciation isĀ prah-leen, with the longĀ aaahĀ sound. Other regions of the country, including parts of Texas, Georgia, and New England have anglicized the termā€¦
